| Fausto
Coppi was really the "Campionissimo" of every victory. His
superiority was undisputed and unquestionable. In the course of his unique
carrier, Fausto Coppi won 53 times opening up a lead on the other
competitors (of course, without considering his successes in the speed
contests or behind the motors). In the photo above Coppi, alone, is at the
top of the Ghisallo in 1946. He will run the Giro di Lombardia holding out
against the headlong competitors. In the photo above he has just got off
the bike after a striking success in the National G.P. in 1947; in the
right photo he is moving into action in the Milan-Sanremo he won in 1948:
the second racer got the finishing line after 5' 17''. Three victories,
three times of the greatest champion: uphill, in time trials, on the
level. |
